Session 3: Lakeside (Before the Chaos)

Chaos comes slowly to camp.

Before the pranks and madness, Session 3 begins just like any other camp week, and any other camp week begins with a campfire at our Lakeside Fire Ring.

About 8 seasons ago (a camp life time), we moved our central fire ring from its spot deep in the woods to a new home right on the shore of Lake Shawanni.

It's of course the site of our opening and closing campfire, but throughout the week it also plays host to various cabin activities, classes, staff meetings, and all camp events. Here's some shots from about 24 hours at our Lakeside Fire Ring.

Our handy-dandy year round weather proofed Camp Spirit containment unit.

The spirit prepares to leave it's home...

Spread to the campers' candles...

And finally ignite the opening campfire, with the help of a rousing rendition of The Princess Pat.

On Tuesdays, Lakeside is a popular venue for our evening Cabin Choice activities.

Activities like holding frogs!
Making Frog Faces! (I think that's a frog face.)
Add picturesque bubbles by the lake.

Thanks for pointing! Now I see it!
Cabin #1 paddles by.

Not gracefully, but they paddle by.

Hmm. This fire appears ready to be utilized for some S'mores.

And Cabin #10 appears ready for S'mores. And the Cabin #10 counselors appear ready to eat sticks.

Yup. Fire. Stick. Marshmallow. Canoes. Lake. Summer Camp.

We don't sell camp brand marshmallows, but if we did, this would be on the label.
Daylight fades a lot quicker at the end of July than at the beginning.

DO NOT BITE YOUR COMPUTER SCREEN TRYING TO GET AT THIS S'MORE.
7 am. Golden Eagle Yoga.

And our first thing in the morning Polar Bear swim, just visible in the distance.
