The Second Annual Lantern Family BBQ

This past Saturday we held our Lantern Family BBQ. It's a fun, relaxed afternoon and a chance for us to thank some folks who have helped out Camp over the year. It's also a good opportunity to get to introduce them to this season's Summer Staff.

Most of all, it is for our Lantern Families who have assisted us in the biggest way possible: by referring brand-new campers for Summer 2015.

(All photos are credited to Harry Brochinksy. I'm sure he'd want to make very certain you were aware of that.)

We had it all:

Trays of food!

One of the Camp Dogs!

Camp families!

Some ol' Staff Alumni!

Some more recent Ol' Staff Alumni!

Tables to set the trays of food on!

Benches to set the families eating the trays of food on!

Camp Central. Great BBQ venue.

Good food = happiness.

Thanks to Carl and the rest of the Kitchen Staff for making the good food that makes that happiness.

Dining Hall Porch is a lovely place to enjoy a meal.

And we had lawn games for dessert!

Don't worry. We also had dessert for dessert.

Camp Dogs live a good life.

Action shot!

Action shot!

Seems like Harry just LOVES action shots.

Nice shirts, huh? Tell that to Courtney! It's her design.

And since it's Camp, we closed the event out with Flag Lowering.
A nice end to another nice afternoon on the shores of Lake Shawanni.

Want to attend next year? Good, cause we want you to attend next year! To get an invite, just refer one  new camper to to attend a summer session here. You can then join our Lantern Program, get some perks and discounts, be at next summer's event, and help get more kids to Summer Camp, all at the same time.

We also took the BBQ as an opportunity to officially dedicate our Lakeside Fire Ring project. We introduced our guest of honor, Louie from Dreamscape Landscaping (AKA Lakeside Louie.) His donation of time, energy, and talent made the completion of this project possible. To meet Louie and see a little bit of Jim and I introducing him, go here. (Thanks to Connie Martinez for the video.)

We presented the bench plaques from our many donors, and discussed how much like Summer Camp itself, it takes the generosity and dedication of a large group to make such a project possible.

Here's just a tiny sample of the 20 benches we currently have sponsored - stop by Camp to see the whole collection! (We'll feature some more on future blog posts as well, I'm sure.)

Thanks to all those who have donated thus far. Camp is nothing without the people who care about it.

If you'd like to donate for a plaque of your own, please get in touch!

NEXT TIME: Yup. It's Session #3. Yup. It's Chaos Week. Yup. There's pictures.
