New Classes for a New Year- S.E.T Courses

So, our next new class is actually four new classes.

For the past seven seasons, we've started our summer with a week of a Science, Engineering, and Technology Camp.  We will no longer be offering this program to make way four our new SEVENTH SESSION OF SUMMER CAMP, but we thought some of our specialized S.E.T classes were just too good to lose.

We've picked a couple of our favorite SET Camp classes and will be offering one a session throughout the middle of the summer season. These are double-class period courses, so don't miss the chance to spend a couple full Camp mornings enjoying our creative science courses.

The offerings for 2016 include:

Aliens: Students in our Aliens class get to build an extraterrestrial civilization from the ground up! Through various projects and activities they’ll design the physiology of an alien species, the environmental make-up of their planet, the scope of their technology, and the entire history of their culture. The stars (and our camper’s creativity) are the limits. (Offered Session #3: Out of This World Week. Naturally.)

Ocean Robotics: There’s only one thing cooler than robots: underwater robots. Campers will learn how scientists use Remote Operate Vehicles to monitor the ocean and use that knowledge to build an ROV and explore the depths of our very own Lake Shawanni. The program will focus on underwater gliders and Sea Perch ROVs. (Offered Session #4: Spy Week.)

Chuck It: Nobody ever gets tired of objects being hurled through the air! Yes, as the name so clearly explains this class will be about items being thrown, hurled, launched, catapulted, flung, and chucked. Not only will the students construct different kinds of catapults, sling shots, and air cannons, but they will learn the physics of flight by examining the factors distance, speed, angles and velocity. (Offered Session #5: Heroes and Villains.)

Crazy Contraptions: A favorite of the science and technology based classes, this class tests our campers inventiveness, knowledge, and patience. Using a random assortment of house hold gadgets, junk, and everyday items they must construct an insanely complex Rube Goldberg-esque machine (www.rubegoldberg.com) designed to perform a very simple task. They will learn the basics of planes, wedges, pulleys, wheels, levers and screws and have to utilize them all to build their own unique Crazy Contraption. (Offered Session #6: CHAOS.)

These classes have been very popular among those who have already signed up early for Camp with out Polar Bear registration, In fact, some are already close to selling out. If you'd like a little creative science in your summer, sign up soon!

Next Time: We've still got one more addition to our Class Schedule for Summer '16...
