4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens: Week #2!!!

(Our brand-new program, 4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens held its second -and first FULL- session last week! Let's now take a trip down to see all the happenings and goings on at 4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens:)

4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens had its first full session last week!

On Monday we greeted a brand new batch of campers

All was going great!

…Until a mysterious Secret Agent sent the whole camp on a Scavenger Hunt Mission!

Once we returned from the strange interruption

We were able to have our Morning Meeting in peace - where each morning the camp helps build our 4-H Clover up

Leaf by leaf as we present what our 4-H’s:

Head

Heart

Hands

and Health

Mean to us as a cabin and as a community.

Throughout the days we also had a lot of fun in our Cabin Activity Times…

We have our creative Bamboo Forest Time everyday

…even if its not always at the Bamboo Grove…

And where we try new things like painting and potting plants

Field Games

Hiking in Helyar Woods

Or hunting for Big Foot depending on who you ask

and making some Eco-Art.

Each day we also explored our interests with different Rutgers University experts

Starting off with Alex the Rutgers Gardens Student Farm Manager

who led the camp on a tour of the Student Farm

And Caitlin, the Rutgers Gardens Superintendent

who toured us through the Rain Garden and Pollinator Garden

where we got to learn about how and why rain gardens work, and the importance of pollinators

Wednesday we had a team of Rutgers Wildlife biologists come in

Who guided us through

some hands-on learning on bats,

And taught us about echolocation

And Thursday we had RU Dietetics come in to talk about nutrition and our favorite veggies!

On our last day

we took a camp- wide walk up to the Cook’s Market Farmers Market

where we used our vouchers to pick out some of our own fruits and veggies to bring home.

But those are just the highlights of our week!

After all we learned…

We got ready to…

Compete in an epic battle of…

Predator Versus Prey!

And following a hard fought few rounds…

We settled in for our closing ceremonies

where we took a few reflective moments

to recognize the community we created together this week…

…at 4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens.
