4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens: Week #1!!!

(While we've been busy updating you about the happenings at our overnight 4-H Camp in Stokes State Forest, New Jersey 4-H Camp has also been busy launching a brand-new program - 4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens!!!

So, we're happy to update on our Inaugural Mini Session at 4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens!)

It has been one week since we greeted our first campers here at 4-H Camp at Rutgers Gardens,

and we have a lot to fill you in on!

It was a jam packed 3 days!

Of course, Tuesday night on Day Camp Eve, the camp magic had mysteriously disappeared…

so to start off we all had to go on a Gardens wide scavenger hunt...

Stopping at some of our favorite locations to soak in the beautiful magic, and collect some important items.

We stopped the the bamboo grove,

the display garden…

and of course the famous green chairs.

After we collected all that was needed,

our campers helped restore the magic and we were able to get on with our day

where we had some creative time in the bamboo forest,

played some field games,

and had some of our camp famous whatever time!

That was just Wednesday though!

Thursday was filled with just as much action…

as we painted some pots, planted our flowers…

and met with some Nutrition experts from Rutgers University

who came in to help us figure out the ultimate vegetable.

Turns out corn was the winner this week!

As Friday rolled around…

we did a lot of prep and training

for our camp-wide Predator Versus Prey game

Where each camper had to fight for food…

Water

Shelter…

and navigate through…

the Cheetah Chase

and Turtle Tundra zones to win the game –

that was until our ferocious counselors…

turned on the rest of camp

and became the ultimate predators –

they probably should have prepared a bit more though…

because while they fought with heart

they were easily defeated by the camper team.

After some tough competition…

As our final day came to a close

we finished the session off with some cabin closing ceremonies

As we said good-bye to our first group of campers

and patiently awaited Monday for our first full session!
