The FIRST Event of Summer 2017...Leadership Weekend!

What are all these Camp people doing together in a snow storm!?

-FLASHBACK-

-...TWO DAYS EARLIER...-

 So.

The FIRST day of Summer 2017 is Monday, July 3rd.

But before that, we have our Camp Eve Celebration, on Sunday, July 2nd.

But a week before that, we start with Staff Training!

And a week before that, we have Senior Staff Training!

And four months before that, in the middle of February, we have a Junior Counselor Training, our Leadership Weekend our very-very-very-very first event of Summer 2017.

So we awoke the Camp Spirit in the middle of winter...

And gathered up our Junior Counselor applicants...
For our first,
First,

First,

First opening campfire of 2017.

Keeping plenty winter-warm, close to our bright fire of good ol' summer camp spirit.

Then! The next morning! After a hearty breakfast...

We get down to some Junior Counselor Training.

Our 2nd year Junior Counselors prepare some scenarios...

While our first year J.C. applicants attend their high-pressure interviews.

Wait. This doesn't look that high pressure.

Okay. That's better. That's most like it.

While they wait for their interviews, there's work to be done!

Like re-setting our Wishing Well.

Now we're all set for summer to begin.

And work like giving our Dining Hall...

A nice mid-winter cleaning.

Looks like the Winter Gathering wreath is still up.

We should take that down.

After a few good photo-ops, of course.

Then it was on to a training session!

With our Senior Staff...

Sharing some of their well earned camp experience.

Then!

After all that interviewing...

And training...

And community service-

-Work projecting...

It was time for some playing...

In the well timed fluffy snow...

That had just fallen on Camp, two nights earlier.

The Bowl is a lot of fun in the summer...

...and a whole different kind of fun in the winter.

Some participants...

Showed off their individual talents...

And some Senior Staff...

Tried to pick up those talents for themselves.

Some, not so much.

And then!

Out of no where!

A spur of the moment...

Team building exercise emerged...

 As it became clear...

That this wide open field...

And this specific consistency of snow...

Was just destined...

For snow fort construction.

And so the Camp Igloo was created!

Campy music was played!

The walls grew higher!

And a new camp structure was created...

Of such quality...

That it might just still be standing for everyone to see in July.

(As long as we have a relatively cool July.)

An that was it!
For this blog post.

It was certainly not it,
for Leadership Weekend.

So stay tuned, to this very year-round Summer Camp journal, for more highlights from Leadership Weekend 207.

NEXT TIME: Like we said. MORE from Leadership Weekend...
