A Little Leadership (Weekend) Goes A Long Way...

That's right! Leadership Weekend!

It's that one time of the year...

That all of our recently aged-out-"graduated"-former-Counselors-in-Training-no-longer-campers...

Get together...

For some mid-February Summer Camp fun!

For some Junior Counselor Training!

For some classic Camp...

New people meeting!

And of course,

To enjoy 4-H Camp in the beautiful and scenic...

Winter Weather!

Wait a second. I said "beautiful and scenic...

Winter Weather!

Oh yeah. That's right. I forgot.

Winter Weather is not just...
Fluffy snowflakes...

And frozen lakes.

Nope, Winter Weather...

Is also...

Constant 38 degree rain...

And...

Soaking wet leaves.

Oh, well. At least it didn't rain the whole weekend.

Wait, what!?

It did!?

It rained...

Virtually the whole Weekend!?

Well, if so, the next question is...

Did that stop us!?

Did that stop the Junior Counselors,

Of L.G. Cook 4-H Camp!

Of course it didn't!

We got right out in the rain!

And we loved it!

We hiked...

In the rain!

We played...
In the rain!

Sometimes we played under some cover too.

Cause that's only sensible.
I mean, c'mon. It's raining out.

But then we'd get right back out in the rain!

We even tried to sled down the bowl in the rain!

Until we realized that didn't work at all and wisely gave up immediately.

But what does work in the rain!?

Hide and Seek!

Hide and Seek works great in the rain!

Well.

Kind of it does.

Do you know what works even better?

Getting OUT of that cold, cold rain...
And going back inside to warm up!

With some warm food!

Warm food makes us happy.

Yes, our Junior Counselors cooked together as a team...

And then we'd certainly...

Eat together...

As a team as well.

But Leadership Weekend was not just...

Cold fun and warm food!

Our 2nd Year,

Returning Junior Counselors...

Designed...

And prepared...

A Scenarios Training Game...

To share their experience with our brand-new Junior Counselors,

And,

When there was...

Finally...

A break in the rain...

How did we celebrate?

By going to work! That's how!

How do we fuel all our good campfires?

(Sure, Camp Spirit, yes, good point.)

But also...

Firewood!

And that firewood...

Sometimes needs...

Moving around!

And we've got just the Junior Counselors to do it.

Usually the goal is...

NOT to make any holes in our Camp canoes.

However, when we're trying to create some drainage in ol' leaky decommissioned canoes for our brand-new CANOE-NITY GARDEN...
Punching holes in canoes is encouraged.

Do you know what everyone's favorite part of
4-H Camp is?

The thorn bushes!

Oh wait.

No, never mind.

NO ONE likes the thorn bushes.

So the Junior Counselors thought...

"Hey, let's get rid of some thorn bushes."

And in the midst of all the work...

And all the-brief-moments-of-no-rain...

And firewood moving...

There were also...

Junior Counselor Interviews!

Very serious, somber...

No laughing matter...

Intimidating Junior Counselor interviews.

As you can surely tell.

Then!
-
For one more sampling...

Of a little Summer Camp...

In the winter time...

We warmed up the Dining Hall...

(With some of that very firewood we had moved around...)

For the 2nd Year JCs...

To administer...

Their Scenerios Training Exercise...

And finally...

We then huddled around...

Another fire...

At the other end of the Dining Hall...

For our traditional, Leadership Weekend...

Saturday Night Storytelling Campfire.
Then! Sunday morning!

A little more food (who doesn't love breakfast pasta...)

A little Camp Clean-Up...

(Who doesn't love Camp Clean-Up...)

And a little...

Of our patented...

Group test style...
Goldfish point fueled...

Write those answers down...

Then shout...

Those answers out...

Leadership Weekend Final Exam:

The Romanchuk.

It's even more fun than it looks!

And it looks like a lot of fun.

And of course we end, with a Thank You Circle.

Why in the Dining Hall, you ask? Funny enough, because it happens to be raining out.

And ending with a Thank You Circle makes sense, because full circle is what Leadership Weekend is all about!

A group of campers who love 4-H Camp...

Who become CITs...

Who become Junior Counselors...

Who help create a Camp for a whole new generation of campers to love.

Full Circle! Back to the beginning!

Just like this blog post- bringing us right back to where we started:

With a group photo of the wonderful Junior Counselors at Leadership Weekend 2018.
