London Edition: Final Edition

London Edition: Volume V - The Last London Edition (for this year, anyways...)

So, we ventured across the pond, hung out in front of some very ol' buildings, saw some ol' bones, met up with some ol' friends and even made a few new ones in the form of our international counselor hires for 2015.

Sounds like a pretty productive trip, huh?

But, as I look back at our cross-Atlantic excursion, none of that's even what sticks with me the most.

What sticks me the most is what a fantastic organization Camp America is, and what an important part it plays in what we do here at L.G. Cook every summer.

For years now, we've almost taken for granted that a bunch of folks from other countries will just show up to be counselors, and that's just how it is. Like the lake and the buildings, they're just there. But of course, like the lake and the buildings, there's a whole lot more that goes into it than that.

And think what a huge part of the Camp experience our international counselors are! In a Camp built on the ideals of new experiences, meeting new people, and discovering new things, what could be more important than meeting people from entirely different countries and cultures?

For our campers, it could be the first time they meet anyone from these places outside the US, much less the impressive leaders and role models our counselors turn out to be. For our staff it could be the first time they make friends with peers from another country, and we've seen countless examples of these friendships spanning oceans and decades.

And of course, what we learn the most from meeting people from very different places is that we're not all so very different after all. We're happy for that to be a message we spread here every single summer at Camp, and we're proud to be associated with Camp America to help us to do it.

So cheers (in the parlance of our British friends) to Camp America on 30 years of incalculable service. We can't wait to see what we accomplish together in the next 30.

Us and our awesome Camp America Rep, Elizabeth, conducting ourselves as professionally as possible.

Next on the blog: Camp is covered in snow. That's all.
