Visit 4-H Camp with a FALL FAMILY PICNIC!

Fall Family Picnics!

We are offering individual families a chance to spend a little quality time at 4-H Camp this autumn!

Families will be able to stroll around our facility, hike some trails right here at Camp or venture out into Stokes State Forest, go fishing, and just enjoy the fall foliage and autumn scenery surrounding Lake Shawanni.

Social distancing measures will be in place. Picnics are limited to the persons in a single household. Other than access to a rest room and our Rec Hall during inclement weather, families will not have any access to buildings or indoor facilities.

In accordance with Rutgers University Health and Safety policies, staff will not be on hand to assist with programs, but your family can enjoy the rare opportunity of having 4-H Camp almost entirely to yourselves.

These picnics will be part of our "Make the Best (LOOK) Better Campaign" as we work to have L.G. Cook 4-H Camp looking better than ever before to welcome campers back for Summer '21, our 70th anniversary.

Families can book a 4-H Camp visit one of two ways, either by paying a fee that will go directly to support facility improvements and upkeep, or by volunteering to help complete a service project during your visit. (The fee is optional, and starts at $100 per family.)

Picnic days will have a window of availability from 10am to 4pm. Your family can arrive when you choose, and stay as long as you'd like.

----
  • 4-H Camp will not be able to provide any food or beverages. Families are welcome to pack a picnic lunch, or upon sign-up we'll let you know about some local food options as well.
  • Guests will not have access to any 4-H Camp buildings, outside of a restroom assigned specifically for your family.
  • To follow the health and safety guidelines outlined by Rutgers University, family visits are strictly limited to members of your own household. Families are not permitted to bring friends, neighbors, or campers from other households.
  • We will be keeping our capacity for these picnics quite low, but it is possible that a few other families might be in attendance the same day as you. Our outdoor facility should allow families to keep a distance far greater than six feet, but if you come in contact we strongly recommend that you wear a face covering to protect yourself and those around you. Please respect any other families on site by just waving and saying hello by the substantial distance our wide open 4-H Camp allows.
  • Our guidelines follow those of Rutgers University, the NJ governor, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

(Weekday visits are also available upon request!)

Please reach out to us at the Camp Office (973-948-3550) with any questions or requests!

HAFHAH In Review

To mark the end of August, we thought we'd share some of the big picture view of all that went on this summer in our virtual HAFHAH Camp program.

(In addition, we still have just a few spots in our THREE virtual cabins that will be meeting through the Autumn and start of the school year with 4-H Camp: HA-FALL!   If you'd like to join us, learn more and sign up!)

If you want to spend sometime seeing what happened in HAFHAH for yourself, you can spend sometime on our HAFHAH Playlist on our Youtube Channel. You can watch all our evening activities, from the Opening Campfire to Camp Mystery Detectives and Battle for the Island, right on to our Talent Show and Closing Ceremonies.

Check 'em out to get a taste of some of what our HAFHAH campers were up to this summer!

Ha-Fall!

After the success of our techfree techful, make-the-best-possible-out-of-2020-virtual-camp-program HAFHAH, we're excited to introduce the sequel, follow-up, and variation: HA-FALL! (More HAFHAH highlights are coming your way soon!)

HA-FALL (HAFHAHLL - Home Away From Home. At Home. Little Longer.) is similar in some ways to the summer program, but also has completely different goals and structure.

While HAFHAH was our best attempt to replicate and recreate our favorite parts of summer camp virtually, HA-FALL is all about extending the support, camaraderie, and friendship of the Camp Family throughout the school year.

Cabin groups will meet ONCE a week for a ten week session. Though the cabin meetings would still feature some games and activities, the focus of the cabins will be to build and maintain relationships between camp friends, and to offer a place to check-in and discuss, reflect on and laugh about their school weeks and autumns with our 4-H Camp counselors. Cabin meetings will have a duration of one hour and fifteen minutes each.

There would also be a single Rec time offered each week, Saturday mornings at 10:30 am, in which campers could opt to participate in.

We have THREE cabin options available:

The first is for our younger campers (12 and under) and meets on Zoom Monday evenings from 7:00-8:15 PM.

The second is for our thirteen and fourteen year olds, and also meets on Zoom Monday evenings from 7:00-8:15 PM.

The third is for our older campers (15 and up) and meets on Zoom Wednesday evenings from 7:00-8:15 PM.

The program will run from the week of September 14th through the week of November 16th. The fee for HA-FALL is $295.

Both cabins are currently at over 50% capacity, and we only have a handful of open spots left. If interested, we recommend you sign-up soon to secure a spot!

Sign up here!

If you have a credit with us from Summer 2020 and would like to use that for your registration, please get in touch with us at the office and we will apply that credit.

As always, get in touch with us at the Camp Office (973-948-3550) if you have questions about the program, questions about something else, or just want to say hi!

HAFHAH: Closing Ceremonies

It is the LAST day of July, and that means it is also the LAST day of our HAFHAH (Home Away From Home At Home) program.

Over the next few weeks, we'll be sharing a bunch of the HAFHAHighlights with you, but in the meantime we'd like you to invite you to our HAFHAH Closing Ceremonies. You can join us tonight at 7pm (Friday, 7/31) or anytime after that on our Camp Youtube channel.

We're looking forward to sharing the HAFHAH fun (HAFHAHn) we've had with you!

Random HAFHAH Hilarity

If you think it's hard to describe Summer Camp on the Camp Blog...

Just try attempting to describe...

Virtual Summer Camp!

Where all your camp gear...

And supplies...

Just show up...

At your house!

And forts just show up at your house too!

Along with Cabin Time naps...

Zzzzz....

Along with raucous games of...

This or HAT...

And other...

Not quite describable...

Home Away From Home At Home...

Moments.

Some BRAND-NEW Cabins at 4-H Camp!!!

Yes, we have a brand-new Camp program this summer in which our campers are EVERYWHERE, so that means we weren't limited to our 11 standard cabins of 4-H Camp.

Our HAFHAH cabins got to choose their own Cabin #, their own tree to represent them, and their own location on Camp.

So we're pleased to introduce you to the new lay of the land at 4-H Camp...

Cabin # ?...

With a scenic view of the lake.

Cabin 25.Ï€...

Claimed the front of the Dining Hall...

While Cabin 12=12 set up shop...

Inside on the salad bars.

For Cabin #13...

There's nothing unlucky about being positioned at Lakeside.

In fact, Lake Shawanni became quite the popular spot...

As Cabin #15...

Decided to live on the Floating Dock...

While Cabin #42...

Opted to float around...

Wherever it pleased...

And Cabin 3.14159265359....

Just jumped right in.

Cabin #2007...

Choose to position themselves right at the Director's House...

And what's better than living on Vespers Island?

Living on Vespers Island...

Surrounded by lava.

And leave it to Cabin #Quadratic Equation to decide to locate their cabin directly on "Ben's facial hair."

However, they forgot to factor in...

That I could always shave.

Well played, Cabin # Quadratic Equation.

Well played, HAFHAH campers everywhere.

HAFHAH Care Packages: Away!

How'd we get to this massive pile of boxes?

Well, we started here...

Organizing "random hilarity"...

Added in a T-shirt...

Cause you simply can't have a Summer Camp season without a t-shirt...

And then threw in a healthy dose of Camp Magic...

Straight from the source, our beloved Lake Shawanni, of course...

Then it's all about...

Boxing it up...

Piling it up...

And shipping it out!

It's as simple as that, to get a little bit of Summer Camp directly into the hands of our HAFHAH Campers.

HAFHAH Campers! Keep an eye out for your care packages, coming your way soon!
