Garden Day!!!

It's time to start the second season...

Of our Canoe-nity Garden!

This past weekend, we had a beautiful day...

To wake up the garden from its long winter slumber...

And start preparing...

And planting...

To get the it ready...

For another productive...

And fruitful summer season.

As has become tradition...

(Because here at 4-H Camp...

We believe things only have to happen twice...

To make a tradition)...

The Sussex County 4-H Gardening Club...

The Summer Blossoms...

Generously donated their time...

Talents...
Labor...

Seeds...

And plants...

To ensure that...

Our Canoe-nity Garden...

Would be all ready and set...

For our campers to continue...

To care for...

And cultivate...

When they arrive in just a couple weeks.

We can't wait to see...

What grows here...

In Summer 2019!

Our deepest thanks to the Sussex County 4-H Summer Blossoms! All the enjoyment (and vegetables!) we get from the garden all summer long wouldn't be possible without them.

Spring Has Sprung!

Yes, it is Mid-May and if the calendar weren't enough to tell you, a quick look outside would let you know that it is springtime at 4-H Camp for certain.

You can tell because it's finally GREEN!

Like, green green.

Like forest green...

In forest springtime green. Like that green.

You can tell because...
There's flowers!

Flowering all over the place!
You can tell because...
Our Assistant Director...

SAMALANDER is already here, helping prepare for summer!
You can tell because THIS weekend...

Is the planting day for our Canoe-nity Garden!

And next weekend is SPRING FAMILY WEEKEND! (We've still got few spots left and registration continues through this weekend if you'd like join us!)

And you can tell because...

Session #1 is now filled up, so we are ENTIRELY SOLD-OUT for Summer Camp 2019.

Spring is nice.

C'mon In! We've Got More Staff to Meet!

Yes, you heard right! We've got MORE of the Summer Staff of '19 for you to meet!

Why, we've got BRAND-NEW TO CAMP staff to meet, like Sequoia!

"Hi all! My name is Sequoia, and this is my Coat of Arms! Since I’m named after a tree, I always felt as if I have a true love and appreciation for them, so I decided to make that my super power! As for my goals for camp, I want to promote a safe place where everyone is included and welcomed. My spirit animal is a Seahorse! They are such gentle and loving creatures that can coexist with several other species. And as for my role, I am in the Craft Shop! So excited to meet you all and be a part of this awesome experience."

Why, we've got BRAND-NEW TO STAFF but been coming to 4-H Camp forever folks to meet, like Evan!

"I am looking forward to working in the kitchen for my year on staff. My goals for this year include learning what it is like to work a full summer at camp, and having a great time with everyone. I chose the hyena as my animal because they are always laughing and having a good time. My camp super power is cleaning dishes. During my JC week I became best friends with Hobart, and can't wait to see him again this summer."

And, of course, we've got BRAND-OLD STAFF to meet too, like our returning third year counselor, Cassidy!

"My name is Cassidy and I am a creative arts counselor! My camp superpower is creativity. My favorite thing to do on camp is take something ordinary and make it completely extraordinary! I love to help my campers realize their creative potential and love all art that they make because it is unlike anyone’s else’s! My spirit animals are a rainbow fish and a unicorn: so pretty much anything that is colorful and so unique you’d never find it anywhere but summer camp! My camp goal is to make this year’s summer camp the healthiest summer camp yet for both campers and staff. And I believe the only way to make this possible is by eating more bananas and doing more dancing! So let’s make this year’s camp dance the danciest it’s ever been by fueling our bodies with great food made by our great kitchen staff!!"

All right. So here's the plan. We'll split up now, and then we'll meet back in a couple days on this very blog and meet more staff. Deal? Deal. Break.

Keep On Meeting the Staff of Summer '19!

Yes, Happy Nearly-May-Monday! Let's celebrate the occasion by meeting some more staff!

Like our returning for a THIRD summer counselor, Phoebe Plunkett!

Here's my Camp Coat of Arms- a true masterpiece, I'm sure you'll agree. (* Director's Note: I don't think Phoebe intended  for that first line to be included in the blogpost, but I couldn't resist.)
My camp superpower is eating the equivalent of my body weight in camp foods- mealtimes are one of my favourite parts of the camp schedule!
My camp goal is to be more like, and to learn a lot from, my EE coordinator Kuba- as you can see I've been practising his signature pose over the off season.
My role at camp is the only female British counsellor this Summer, alongside being a big sister to my cabin girls and an EE counsellor, of course!
My spirit animal is an Ostrich, because I think the length of their legs would probably rival mine, and the resemblance between my face and the ostrich's is just uncanny.

And like our ALSO RETURNING FOR A THIRD SUMMER counselor, Michal!

My power - I am always smiling and create smile at others' faces
my goals - create and share with others a good, positive time at camp
animal - owl
role - E.E. Counselor

Nothing can be more than three summers! Unless it's FOUR summers, so let's meet our new Community Coordinator, Chelsea, as she returns for her fourth year at 4-H Camp!

Camp Super power: Making it sunny all the time so rain doesn't affect our fun times in the outdoors!
Camp Goals: Bringing in new ideas to help expand and strengthen our great camp community!
Spirit Animal: red panda
Role at Camp: Senior Staff/Community Coordinator

And enough of counting up, let's start counting down, because our long time camper Miranda is finally joining us for her very FIRST summer on Staff.

Now, we've met 12 staff. 12 staff is enough to meet, right?

Right?

Right.

Right.

WRONG. Tune in next time to...you guessed it, Meet More Staff.
