Historical Open House - October 18th - The 75th Celebrations Continue!

If you're passionate about Camp History, enjoy some well documented story-telling, or are just looking for an excuse to swing by 4-H Camp in the Fall, we've got the event for you!

Our Historical Open House will feature tales ranging all the way from 4-H Camp's humble beginnings of being "built on faith" to the modern day program our campers enjoyed just a few weeks ago during our 75th summer.

We'll start with a presentation featuring some artifacts and documents entailing 4-H Camp's founding in our Dining Hall, and move onto a little walking history tour showcasing all that's changed and that's stayed the same.

The event will run from 10:30am-12:30pm. Coffee and light refreshments will be provided.

Please RSVP here to let us know you'll be attending.

Also, if you have yet to visit or contribute to our 75th Anniversary Memory Book, please do so! It will continue to grow and be added to throughout our year-long celebration.

My Brother Ronnie and myself BOTH went to the Sussex County 4-H Camp in Stokes State Forest--Summer 1966! We Came home after making so many new friends and fun and happy memories! I remember that to be able to swim in the deep water, you had to be able to tread water for a certain amount of time(Maybe 5 minutes?), the Lifeguard was right there in a little rowboat next to you and ready to haul you out if you got in trouble! I remember, I was so determined that I was gonna swim off that dock and in the deep water, no matter what--I was just barely keeping my head above the water in those very last seconds of treading water, but I PASSED! Also, I was so Excited and amazed that one of the crafts/activities i took while at camp, had us assemble a little bedside table lamp that we got to keep! I just couldn't get over the fact that I actually Assembled my own Functional Lamp! That was another great memory from Camp! The Biggest and Best Memory of all at Camp for me and my brother Ronnie, was definitely The Friday night Dance they held for ALL! That was really fun for us pre-teens at Camp--they played the latest rock hits on a record player, And the Pavillion we were Dancing in was packed with Happy Dancers doing their "Best Moves" ...Lol! It was one of my first experiences with a Co-ed dance party, and it really stood out as my BEST and FAVORITE Memory at 4-H camp of all!

    1. Alice! Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful 4-H Camp memory - a joy of our 75th Anniversary has been collecting all these stories. I hope you can join us for this Open House - or you can come visit another time. You can reach us at the Camp Office at 973-948-3550. (And we still have our Friday night Camp Dance! It's probably still plenty of campers favorite memory of all.)
