A Tree Grows in Stokes State Forest...And Another Tree Grows in That Tree

It is a well known fact that there is magic in our 108 Acre woods. Magic in these woods!

It can appear in the form campers showing up as strangers and leaving with friends for life, of a shy kid becoming the star of the talent show or a week long recurring joke that will never make any sense to the outside world.

It also apparently can appear in the form of a tree sprouting where trees aren't really supposed to sprout.

In between the dining hall and the lake, we've got a nice big maple tree growing. And in a little cranny about fifteen feet up, a little pine tree is growing out of that maple tree.

How'd it get there? Why's it growing like that? What will become of it? These are all questions we don't really have answers for, but what we do know is it's become a great summer attraction for those strolling by on their way to an afternoon by the lake.

Look about a third of the way up, right where the trunk splits...

Got to walk a little closer.

There it is.

Good camp magic never ceases.

Good luck, little pine tree. You've got you work cut out for you, but we're pulling for ya regardless.
